IBM Lotus Notes Domino Integration with Office 365, SharePoint and 150+ more

Lotus Notes or IBM Domino database data can be integrated and synchronized codeless with various other data sources using the Layer2 Cloud Connector via the ODBC interface. Please take a look here for supported systems and applications.​​​​​​

To connect to Notes data the data source entity must be configured as follows in the Layer2 Cloud Connector Connection Manager:

IBM Notes Integration And Synchronization Specific Settings

​Please note the following specific settings.

• Select the ODBC Data Provider to connect. The provider should be already installed on any Windows operating systems. The Lotus Notes SQL Driver must be installed as well. It is available directly from the vendor. The installed architecture (32-bit / 64-bit) must fit to the Layer2 Cloud Connector.
• You can use a connection string like this to connect:
  Driver=Lotus Notews SQL Driver (*.nsf); Database=C:\myshare\mynotesdatabase.nsf;
• In case of a file share please use UNC notation: \\myserver\myshare\mydatabase.nsf. Make sure that the current user and the Layer2 Cloud Connector Windows Service has access to the share (mostly Windows services have not by default).
• You can make use of SQL to query your data as supported by the data provider and source system, e.g.:
  Select * from myTable
• You can map your data fields to specific external fields in the Layer2 Cloud Connector. Please take care about data types (simple type conversions are supported).
• Please enter an appropriate primary key (column with unique values), depending on query (see data preview for this).
• You can use the connection for one-way synchronization (reading data from Notes). Writing to Notes has provider-related issues. See below for more.
  
• No installation or changes are required at the Lotus Notes data source or data destination.
• Data synchronization can be started manually in the Connection Manager, per command line or scheduled in background by the Layer2 Cloud Connector Windows Service. Only data changes are processed (no delete / bulk import).
• No programming required for setup a connection and sync.
• No need to open your local network for access from outside.

Known Issues and Workarounds with Notes Integration

There are following known issues and workarounds with Notes integration:

• Writing via ODBC is generally possible with the Layer2 Cloud Connector. The current version of the Notes ODBC driver seems to be having critical issues. Data can get lost, record inserts and updates are not working as expected. Please contact the vendor for possible fixes. 
• Do not use the current version of the data provider for write operations to Notes.
• Documents or other blobs are generally not supported, just structured data like text, numbers etc.
• There are no known issues to use it for reading data.

Step-by-Step Intros For Notes Data Integration and Synchronization

Currently no detailed scenarios available. Just some ideas:

• Sync with local SQL or SQL Azure for better reporting in SSRS.
• Sync with Microsoft Exchange (on-premises or online) for notifications, tasks, calendar events, mobile access and offline availability on any device.
• Sync with 3rd party tools like ERP/CRM/CMS based on SQL databases like Oracle, mySQL or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Sync with Microsoft SharePoint or Office 365 for better collaboration (for example with customers or partners) or for intranet publishing.
